Big George Foreman Review

Fighting , Fearlessness and Faithfulness

I was blessed to see the prescreening of the Big George Foreman movie with Fellowship of Christian Athletes on April 22, 2023. It was very well done and was a great inspirational and Christian film.

George grew up in a poverty-stricken community with his mom and siblings. He was always hungry and always had too little to eat. One night he said he was so hungry he could eat the entire table. Before eating the family would say grace, however, he didn’t quite believe in what his mom prayed. His sister Mary would give him some of her own food and saw the good in him.

When George went to school they would call him Poorman instead of Foreman. He didn’t have anything to eat and the other kids would tease him for not having any food. This obviously angered him and he would get into fights with the kids making fun of him. This got him into trouble a lot and he would often lose his temper. He was getting physical with kids that were smaller than him.

George would grow up getting into trouble and even got into trouble with the law. When he and his friend were looking to rob a civilian they found it was a police officer instead. They got away and he went on to fight another day.

Since his life wasn’t going anywhere so George decided to go to Job Corps. They offered three square meals per day and lodging as well as education. Of course, he got into trouble, when his shoes were stolen and he almost threw someone out of a window after punching a door.

George’s future mentor and coach, Doc Broadus caught him in the act of throwing someone out of a window and prevented him from doing this. He said that he could send George to prison if he wanted to. Instead, he asked him if he’s ever boxed before. He says no he hasn’t, but would like to learn. Doc trained him to be a formidable boxer. He even won the heavyweight championship of the world as well as gold in the Olympics.

George was doing well in life and making a lot of money. However, the woman he married Cynthia Lewis divorced him after two years of marriage. He also married and divorced Three other women.

In his career, Foreman was undefeated until he faced Muhammed Ali. Muhammed beat him at 25 years old and after the fight, he has a heart attack and dies. Miraculously, he comes back to life and claims he saw Jesus and gives his life to Him. He quits boxing and decides to become a preacher.

Foreman met and married Mary Joan Martelly, whom he is married to. He continued as a preacher for a long time until he found out all his money had been squandered by the man he hired as his financial advisor.

He decides to go back to boxing and miraculously wins the heavyweight championship again! It was quite a feat and one of the biggest comebacks ever!

I highly recommend this movie as it’s one of the best Christian sports/rags to riches stories ever! See Big George Foreman in theatres today!
